Frangible - adjective : easily broken; breakable; fragile; brittle

Glass is brittle by its nature. It will break at impact. The frangible EXEL mast will cause only minor damage if an aircraft hits the masts. The frangibility of Exel safety approach light masts is full scale tested under supervision of an ICAO organ and the masts are acknowledged to be frangible based on results of the said full-scale test.
Visual Aid
EXEL masts are painted in Aviation Yellow colour and serve also as a visual aid for the aircraft pilot when he is landing during daytime in good visibility.
Electromagnetic disturbance
EXEL masts themselves are transparent to electromagnetic signals and do not distort the beam pattern of ILS, which means less need for cumbersome recalibrating of the ILS antenna system.
